Sick of Springs? Check Alternative Mattress Reviews

Sick of Springs? Check Alternative Mattress Reviews
Mattress reviews are a key source for finding solutions to sleep challenges posed by traditional beds. The pain and discomfort caused by pressure points associated with innerspring mattresses have many users unable to sleep and desperately searching mattress reviews for a solution. For many years, consumers had virtually no recourse except to buy a new mattress, with the same issues. But technological innovations and mattress trends in the bedding industry have introduced numerous alternatives offering specific solutions to sleep challenges.

For decades, innerspring mattresses were essentially the only product available to most consumers – or at least the only reasonably affordable option. But, these mattresses are built around a wooden framework with a network of metal springs or coils for support. That poses a significant problem for most users because painful pressure points are created wherever the body makes contact. The resulting discomfort is a leading cause of sleep related disorders among otherwise healthy people that can cause serious stress in the user’s personal and professional life. Additionally, these beds use a host of chemicals and non-sustainable materials.

All of that changed with the advent of new technology and competition in the marketplace. The result was new products were introduced and prices of existing mattresses were reduced to more universally affordable levels. Suddenly, consumers had viable alternative mattress choices for the first time that included: memory foam mattresses, latex mattresses, and waterbeds.

With so many options it is important for consumers to do their homework to ensure they purchase the right bed to meet their individual needs. Mattress reviews provide one of the best ways available for consumers to study the merits of competing brands and hear directly from customers regarding their personal experiences and level of satisfaction.

Overview of Alternative Mattress Reviews

Here’s a rundown of the main mattress options currently available and what people are saying about them in mattress reviews:

Memory Foam Mattress Reviews

The polyurethane-based substance at the foundation of these mattresses was inspired by NASA technology intended to cushion astronauts during take-off and re-entry. Memory foam has earned loyal customers far and wide due to its unique open-cell design that subtly absorbs the user’s body to create a “cloud-like” sensation that provides 100 percent support. They are also renowned for their ability to deter motion transfer so each sleep partner remains undisturbed even if the other person is stirring. Memory foam mattresses are offered by numerous manufacturers and retailers in both synthetic and natural varieties, and at a range of costs, so consumers have ample choice. Mattress reviews received by memory foam brands tend to be positive overall with high marks given for comfort and support; in fact, memory foam continues to be the highest rated mattress type overall. Typical complaints involve consumer contentions that the mattresses sleep too warmly, have prolonged odor issues due to off-gassing with petroleum based foams, and that some brands have inconsistent firmness.

Latex Mattress Reviews

For many, many years latex foam mattresses were considered the premiere option in beds, but their prohibitively high cost kept them out of most people’s reach. Latex beds have traditionally been constructed using the milky sap of the rubber tree as a key ingredient, but they are also now made using all-synthetic materials. In both cases, new production methods ensure latex foam mattresses are sold at significantly more reasonable price points on today’s retail market. Natural latex foam mattresses are well-regarded for their comfort, support and durability and generally get high marks for customer satisfaction in mattress reviews. Other than their high cost – which is typically more than any other mattress type, even at today’s lesser costs – consumers tend to have few complaints regarding latex beds, especially if they are all-natural in origin which makes them inherently hypo-allergenic, anti-microbial and resistant to mildew and dust mites – all huge bonuses for people who suffer from allergies or respiratory ailments.

Waterbed Mattress Reviews

Waterbeds have also undertaken a significant transformation in recent years and bear little resemblance to their bulky and, in many cases, uncomfortable predecessors of the 1970s and 1980s. Modern waterbeds often feature compartments or wave-reducing fiber layers to ensure the user gets maximum comfort and support without bottoming out or having to endure rolling waves. Waterbeds currently offer sleep very similarly to a memory foam because the water is highly controlled internally with fiber layers to ensure the body stays properly positioned while in use. Softside waterbeds today also are designed to be subtle and conform to interior decorating schemes using an encasement to contain the bladder and coming in standard bed sizes, unlike their ancestors. Mattress reviews are mixed on water beds – for many people it is a matter of preference; you either love them or hate them. Complaints typically involve durability issues – even modern water beds are known to sometimes leak and for that reason many renters may run into trouble trying to use a water bed in a leased residence because landlords are weary of potential water damage, though enclosed models may solve that issue..

The bottom line when considering a new sleep system is to conduct proper research up front to ensure you understand your own needs and wants so that you can accurately assess available options to determine the best purchase path. One of the best methods for truly understanding the merits of a particular brand selection is to consult mattress reviews.
